                                       Peniglen Training Days

Went out today with a couple of friends to do a bit of advanced training, in preparation for this coming weekend - a novice working test. We unfortunately cannot enter this working test as our bitch that we were taking has come into season. Andrew on the other hand is still looking forward to entering with his dog.
 Test 1

A walk up, with a dummy thrown to shot - to be retrieved diagonally across the line at around 100 yards.

Andrew / Murphy sent for this retrieve, which was completed with ease as Murphy had marked well.

Carrying on with the walk up - again a dummy thrown to shot, the dummy landing in nettles.

Samantha / Murphy2 was sent for this retrieve.Sam and Murphy have recently joined the training groups a couple of months ago at beginners level, and has now progressed to the advanced group as she is doing so well with her dog. Again this retrieve was completed easily as the dog had marked the dummy well.

A seen dummy thrown to shot at around 120 yards. Dog to 'leave that' and go for a blind to the right placed at around 150 yards under a tree in long grass.

Andrew / Murphy sent for the blind. After a bit of directional work, Murphy picked the blind and delivered well to handler.

 Test 3

A shot was fired, and dogs to be sent for a blind retrieve under a tree - at the foot of a wall

in brambles and nettles.

All dogs completed this test with ease.

 Test 4

A dummy thrown at around 110 yards to the right of all handlers and dogs. The dummy landing in long grass and nettles near alot of cow pat and a small pond.

Andrew / Murphy - to ignore seen dummy thrown and to be lined up for a blind placed at around 150 yards in cover under the foot of a wall.

Murphy straight lined well to the blind, hunted the area well and picked the dummy. Another dog then sent to pick the seen (memory) near the nettles and cow pat.

This same test was completed by Boss.

 Test 5

Two blinds which had been placed earlier in another field at around 200 yards - again in long grass / nettles and brambles.

The dogs to go over a wall and retrieve the blinds. Both Ian / Boss and Andrew / Murphy completed the test with ease.

In all a good training session with all handlers and dogs doing well. Just finished in time before the heavens opened. Quick retreat back to the car and home for a cuppa.
